Palace of Devotion (Synopsis)
Inspired by the life story of Queen Zhangxian Mingsu, Liu E of the Song Dynasty. Orphaned from a young age, Liu E went to the capital Kaifeng, and then caught the eye of Zhao Heng. Despite being a concubine, Liu E is sensitive to state affairs and often discusses politics with Zhao Heng. This tradition continued when he became emperor in 997. Liu E was crowned queen after accepting the son of a concubine (later Emperor Renzong), and served as the Song regent during the final two years of her husband's reign. Liu E will continue to rule until her death 12 years later in 1033.Edit Synopsis
